Lesson 3 - Rearrange the Order of Tunes

Some Features Are Only Available Within a Set List!

The beauty of Set Lists, is that you can arrange tunes in the list so that a single touch on your screen will take you to the next song, or page, in your arranged order. Rearranging the order of song sheets is Only available within a Set List.

This next section shows the Step-By-Step instructions as shown in the August 2022 SBB newsletter. However, the newsletter’s page has been cut into 3 sections here, so that I can add some details that wouldn’t fit on a single newsletter page. Read the extra details, or not; always your choice.

Extra Detail: To navigate the pages –this only works in a Set List– just touch in the staff line that is easiest to reach; it truly does not matter which one. You don’t have to ‘press’, nor should you ‘hit’ it, just a simple, light, touch. Play with this; it can do no harm! In fact, this is so effective, that if the set list order is changed a little, you might just flip through pages using this technique. (‘In play order’ is still best, though.)

Extra Details: Even if you can’t see the text in the images clearly –sorry about that– just look to the area the arrows point to. You’ll find it easily on your own iPad screen. Those little 3-bar things on the right that you ‘drag’ are called ‘Hamburgers,’ (Yeah, cute…. ) Once you have dragged the tune to its new location, just lift your finger, and you’re done. If it didn’t go where you want it, simply repeat the process: “click, drag, let go, and click Done.”

Number 3 doesn’t have anything to do with ‘Re-arranging” the tunes, it is another thing that you can do within this view. Useful when a song has been removed from the set altogether, so while you’re moving songs around, simply click that red circle with the - inside, and remove the tune no longer needed in the set. Be Sure to do Step 4 - Click Done.

Extra Details: This Plus sign method is likely the first way you learned to add tunes to your iPad ( it is the only way to add them from Dropbox). Look for the + on the left side in the top black area. It is small, but it’s just above the GB icon in any view. After clicking the plus, you will see the options, including ‘Existing Score’, ‘Set List Item’, or ‘From Dropbox.’ You want ‘Existing Score’, unless you know that you don’t have the song on your device, in which case you’ll chose ‘From Dropbox.’ When you select ‘Existing Score’, you’ll see a list of places, including All Scores (your best bet), then down near the bottom, ‘Binders’ and ‘Set Lists.’ Each of these choices have their usefulness, but not yet. While 'All Scores’ is always the most comprehensive choice, selecting ‘Recently Added’ is useful If you’ve just recently added the song, as it will show near the top of the list, thus a shorter list to scroll.

If you want to experiment with these choices, just don’t follow through to the selecting and Done process . Once you see the result of your choice (e.g. how long the list is) simply click at the left-top of the list where you see “Select Scores,” and it will take you back to the previous selection screen. (Nothing bad will happen if you do follow through either choice. Regardless of the source, you will have added the tune to your set. Be careful in selecting Dropbox, because in the Dropbox list there is no checkmark to indicate it as already being on your iPad, and can result in duplicate tunes. You can Delete the just downloaded tune most easily if you look in Recent Downloads (the downward facing arrow to the left, under the GB) If the title has a number after it, it is a duplicate of something you already have. Unless this is a new version of the tune, delete the ones that have numbers. More on this in some future lesson.

Clicking outside the drop-down window will cancel the selection process completely, and you can start over. Until you’ve made choices and clicked on “Done” in the selection window, you’ve not “Done” anything. Remember?

More Detail:: If you Remove a score from within a set list, it’s only gone from that set list. It doesn’t matter how you remove it. Unless you see the word DELETE, the tune is still in your main All Scores view. With that said, if you Remove a song from a set list, and then want to re-add it, it will be added at the bottom of the set, not in its original location. That’s where the “re-arrange” technique comes in handy!

Until next month; that’s all. The next lesson will be a summarization of these first 3 lessons. Then we’ll be ready to continue learning about using the DDGigbook app on your iPad.
